Below is the link to the youtube video of Toyo Ito's Sendai Mediatheque which provided inspiration for my final submission.

Week 3 Progress Model
Artist Artwork in Studio
Weiwei Artwork in Above Ground StudioBourgeois Artwork in Below Ground Studio
Progress Model with Textures Applied Throughout
Through the applying of textures onto my progress model I continued with my concept of transparency above the datum; using materials including glass and density below the datum; using materials involving stone. The gallery was generally textured to compliment surrounding spaces and further the overall concept of design. Created textures to be used within the model had to also correspond to concepts portrayed through design.
Gallery Texture: "Hollow"
Above Ground Studio Texture: "Reflective"
Below Ground Studio Texture: "Grainy"
Above Ground Studio with Textures
I applied my created texture as a feature of my transparent staircase; altering the size and colour slightly to allow the texture to blend in properly. The added texture allows an abstract but intriguing view as one approaches the above ground studio.
Below Ground Studio with Textures
I applied my created texture as a feature to the spherical walls within my 'bubbly' underground; using it to light up the space and make it more abstract and interesting therefore providing inspiration to the artist in the studio.
Week 2 Sketchup Models
Google Sketchup Model based on Step 3 of Week 2 Activities
Based off section "Sleeping (Stelarc)/ Round (Weiwei)" which i chose due to its abstact spacial properties.

For the design of my 2nd draft sketchup model i tried to incorporate a more direct feeling of created space and to make my model less geometric and more abstract. The placement of possible stairs had a large impact on the design of the sketchup model and with new found sketchup skills i was able to try new things and achieve a more abstract look than my first draft sketchup model the previous week.
Evolved Google Sketchup Model with Stairs
The section which i chose to evolve my sketchup model design from was the "Bike (Weiwei)/ Soap (Bourgeois)" section used in week 1 and my first draft sketchup model. I found that it had the most potential through its diversity in shapes and options regarding its future design. Since my first draft sketchup model i have split the bottom studio from the body of the model and made it a separate entity only joined to the rest of the model by the below ground staircase. For my bottom studio i have worked with the concept of of pressured bubbles and therefore hollowed out space accordingly. Evolving from the concept of transparency above the datum i left the top of the model open to the elements and created a large opening at the foot of the stairs.
The stairs leading from the gallery space to the above ground studio (Weiwei) would consist mainly of transparent materials such as glass. The shape of the stairs consist of straight edged surfaces to emulate the chosen section and its attributes.
The stairs leading from the gallery space to the below ground studio (Bourgeois) would consist of mainly natural stone-like materials and be curved to symbolise the curves in my chosen section below the datum. The stairs would compliment the dense feeling of the underground studio therefore further reinforcing the concept of pressured bubbles.

Week 1 Progress Model
Chosen Section
Bike (Weiwei)/ Soap (Bourgeois)
I chose this section to be the base concept of my sketchup model because i found the design to be very abstract while still keeping a spacial flow about it. The foreground and background within the section provided many options through the creation of its corresponding google sketchup model.
Google Sketchup Model Draft 1
Throughout the creation of this sketchup model i tried to reflect the chosen section quite accurately. Being new to google sketchup it took a while for me to get my head around using the program. I added the materiality of transparent materials above the datum and stone-like materials below the datum to give the model a more realistic look.
