Week 2 Sketchup Models

Google Sketchup Model based on Step 3 of Week 2 Activities

Based off section "Sleeping (Stelarc)/ Round (Weiwei)" which i chose due to its abstact spacial properties.

For the design of my 2nd draft sketchup model i tried to incorporate a more direct feeling of created space and to make my model less geometric and more abstract. The placement of possible stairs had a large impact on the design of the sketchup model and with new found sketchup skills i was able to try new things and achieve a more abstract look than my first draft sketchup model the previous week.

Evolved Google Sketchup Model with Stairs

The section which i chose to evolve my sketchup model design from was the "Bike (Weiwei)/ Soap (Bourgeois)" section used in week 1 and my first draft sketchup model. I found that it had the most potential through its diversity in shapes and options regarding its future design. Since my first draft sketchup model i have split the bottom studio from the body of the model and made it a separate entity only joined to the rest of the model by the below ground staircase. For my bottom studio i have worked with the concept of of pressured bubbles and therefore hollowed out space accordingly. Evolving from the concept of transparency above the datum i left the top of the model open to the elements and created a large opening at the foot of the stairs.

The stairs leading from the gallery space to the above ground studio (Weiwei) would consist mainly of transparent materials such as glass. The shape of the stairs consist of straight edged surfaces to emulate the chosen section and its attributes.

The stairs leading from the gallery space to the below ground studio (Bourgeois) would consist of mainly natural stone-like materials and be curved to symbolise the curves in my chosen section below the datum. The stairs would compliment the dense feeling of the underground studio therefore further reinforcing the concept of pressured bubbles.
